Feast of Words: A Literary Potluck is a monthly dinner party where writers and foodies come together to eat, write, and share. On Tuesday, May 15, following an April nationwide tour with spoken word and performance art collective Sister Spit: The Next Generation, Oakland based writer Cassie J. Sneider reads from her new book Fine, Fine Music.

In keeping with the evening’s theme “Back to the Future,” Sneider reads from a collection of coming of age stories inspired by a childhood spent in a town allegedly stuck in the year 1981, Lake Ronkonkoma, Long Island, and a long-standing obsession with classic rock.

Culinary guest Kuukua Dzigbordi Yomekpe, who dreams of one day introducing the whole world to the Ghanaian culture through her cooking, anchors the evening’s potluck. As always, guests can bring a dish, take part in a writing exercise and share the work they’ve created for a chance to win literary and culinary prizes.

ABOUT CASSIE J. SNEIDER
Sneider grew up in the murky depths of Lake Ronkonkoma, New York, a town with a haunted lake, a trailer park, and a record store. She put 240,000 miles on a Toyota Echo doing readings all over the country. Cassie J. Sneider collects 8-tracks and new friends. You can catch her on the Sister Spit 2012 national tour. ABOUT KUUKUA DZIGBORDI YOMEKPE
Writer, dancer, and culinary artist Yomekpe is taking her love for good food and feeding people beyond her apartment. She prides herself on being able to create Ghanaian dishes by adapting Western ingredients and spices, thereby bridging the gap and helping people enter into and access a foreign culture.

Her current book project, The Coal Pot, is a blend of coming-of-age and coming-out narratives interspersed with recipes that explore the story of a young African immigrant woman who has chosen a life path unlike that of of her ancestors.
